S&T’s Nest Home takes fifth place in the Solar Decathlon

20150910-Solar-House-0046With recycled shipping pallets for siding, denim insulation, flooring fabricated from fishnets – and a home automation system managed by algorithm, the Nest Home designed and built by Missouri S&T’s Solar House Design Team is the epitome of salvaged sustainability.

This past October, team members packed up the house and headed to Irvine, California, to compete in the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2015 Solar Decathlon. After 10 days of intense competition, S&T placed fifth out of 14 teams.

The Nest Home is back on campus now as the newest addition to S&T’s Solar Village. Congratulations to every team member on a strong finish. And thank you to our donors and industry partners for your support.
