More than 100 OGS members took the shillelagh spirit to Chicago in June for OGS Weekend. History, architecture and baseball filled the first day, which concluded with a night of space exploration at the Museum of Science and Industry featuring S&T alumna and former NASA astronaut Sandy Magnus, Phys’86, MS EE’90. After taking Miner pride from the Magnificent Mile to the Art Institute of Chicago, the weekend culminated with an OGS tradition: welcoming new members, who received their shillelaghs from two special guests: Mun Choi, president of the University of Missouri System, and Mo Dehghani, Missouri S&T chancellor-designate. Special thanks to our panel of “Chicago experts” — Jim Faletti, EMgt’71, MS EMgt’79, John Remmers, MetE’84, and Rich Wlezien, vice provost and dean of the College of Engineering and Computing — for sharing their appreciation of the city’s legends, lore, politics and pizza.
