In 1977, a group of dedicated Missouri S&T supporters founded the Order of the Golden Shillelagh. These founders realized that private support was necessary to maintain the high quality of education associated with the school since its founding in 1870. OGS was conceived as a way for people to “pick up the shillelagh” to promote the welfare of the institution and encourage others to become members of OGS.
Benefits of OGS Membership
OGS recognizes and honors those who commit to giving a significant level of support to the university, and the benefits of membership are varied. As member of OGS, you will:
- Receive special invitations to campus events
including the formal OGS induction ceremony - Special campus parking privileges
- Receive the Shillelagh newsletter and other
campus updates - Meet other alumni and friends who are as
committed to the institution as you are - Set an example of loyalty to and support
of Missouri S&T!
OGS Giving Levels
Donors are recognized as members of OGS with a pledge of $15,000 or cumulative lifetime giving of at least $25,000 to the university or the Miner Alumni Association. In addition, OGS offers ten upper giving levels—called claghns. Established to appropriately recognize those who continue to give at higher levels, claghn levels are based on lifetime giving, including corporate matches, pledges, estates and other documented planned gifts. The gift of resources and time are recognized through the OGS celebration, the Shillelagh newsletter and the Honor Roll of Donors.
All gifts made to Missouri University of Science and Technology count toward membership in OGS. Gifts may be designated for any department, program or university-approved area, or a combination of areas.
